Joshua Cox, a former star at Cedar Creek High School, had a javelin throw of 211-3 for Louisiana Tech University at the annual Western Athletic Conference outdoor championship track and field meet this weekend. Cox is in his first season of collegiate competition after being a perennial Class 1A Louisiana High School Athletic Association state champion at Cedar Creek.

Cedar Creek School honored the outstanding academic accomplishments of students in grades 6 through 12 and gave special recognition to all students enrolled in Advanced Placement and Advanced Honors Classes at the Super Omnia Banquet on Thursday May 10th. Students were recognized for their individual achievements with special recognition given to seniors.
Lamar Dowling, Cedar Creek Class of 2005, delivered an inspirational speech that expressed the merits of the ongoing pursuit of excellence. He shared personal accounts of hard work and determination and how it directly related to his academic success on the collegiate and graduate level. Lamar also, expressed the importance of seeing failures as opportunities to learn and strengthen character. Finally, he challenged each student to be steadfast in the ongoing pursuit of the Cedar Creek motto of Super Omnia…the best of all.
Lamar attends Southern Methodist University and has been involved in numerous student activities and served as an orientation leader and the Student Body Secretary. He was appointed as the Student Trustee his senior year and served as a full-voting member of the SMU Board of Trustees. In May of 2009, Lamar graduated from SMU with a Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance, Magna Cum Laude, and Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance, Cum Laude. Lamar is completing his graduate studies at SMU and currently has one year remaining to receive a law degree and MBA.

Fromer Cedar Creek High School star Ashley Aldredge won the Southeland Conference javelin championship with a throw of 151-8. Alshley is a former All-American and state record setting perofrmer at the Creek.
Now attending Northwestern State University, freshman Ashley Aldredge overcame a painful injury and rallied to win the women's javelin by eight feet.

Louisiana Tech freshman Joshua Cox, a Ruston native and Cedar Creek product – was named the WAC Male Field Athlete of the Week after his third place finish at the Louisiana Classics meet in Lafayette, La. Saturday.
Cox threw a WAC-leading javelin mark of 213-9 (65.16m) in his first collegiate event. The true freshman’s mark is ranked 10th in the NCAA East performance list and 18th in the nation so far this season. It also ranks third in school history.

Louisiana Tech University recently selected sixteen students from a pool of seventy applicants to serve as Orientation Student Leaders for 2013. Hayley Gaston, class of 2009, and Tyler Mills, class of 2010, were among those selected. As Orientation Student Leaders, they will serve as the "Face of Louisiana Tech for a year". The main role of Orientation Student Leaders is to introduce new students and their parents to the university at orientation and help them to make a smooth transition into college. Hayley is a junior majoring in Kinesiology and Health Promotions with a minor in Sports Marketing. Tyler is a sophomore majoring in Finance.

Mallory Cox, Class of 2009 was crowned Miss Lafayette.
Mallory is currently a junior at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, studying mathematics.
"My goal is get a master's in education and teach high school math," said Cox, sporting her new crown following Sunday's competition in Angelle Hall on the campus of the University of Louisiana.
The event, is part of the Miss America system and now go on to compete in the Miss Louisiana pageant this summer in Monroe.
For Cox, this will be her second run for the state title, which leads to the Miss America Pageant

Mr. John Cody Bennett, Class of 2006, of Sewanee: University of the South has been awarded a Fulbright U.S. Student Program scholarship to Germany in Teaching English as a Foreign Language, the United States Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board announced recently.
Bennett is one of over 1,600 U.S. citizens who will travel abroad for the 2011-2012 academic year through the Fulbright U.S. Student Program.

Robby attends Belmont University in Nashville, TN. Robby was chosen as the Best Freshman Artist from the entire Freshman Class at Belmont. Robby is a Music Business Major at the university and is pursuing a career in music playing at many venues in the Nashville area. Robby was involved in music his entire time at Cedar Creek and was a student of Cindy Hockenjos there. Robby will release a new EP entitled “Back to Life” in early May with release shows in Nashville as well as in Ruston. Updates can be found on Facebook and Twitter. Congratulations Robby.

Benjamin G. Kirby, Cedar Creek Class of 2007, a former Cedar Creek Student Body President, and past President of Sigma Nu Fraternity (university of Arkansas), was accepted to and graduated from the United States Marine Corps Officer's Candidate School in Quantico, Virginia on August, 14, 2010.
Ben, being 20 years old until two weeks before graduation, was one of the youngest candidates to graduate from an initial class of 500, where the average age was 25 years old. He was ranked 2nd in phi platoon of 47, and was awarded the Gung-Ho Award for outstanding performance and demonstration of superb teamwork and enthusiasm while participating in Officer Candidate School; one of only six awards given among the 253 graduates in his Company.
Ben is a Senior Management/Marketing major at the University of Arkansas Walton School of Business and after graduating in May of 2011 plans to accept a commission as an officer in the United States Marine Corp.

Alumni Chosen to be a Baylor Ambassador
While at Louisiana Tech, Rob Goodwill was on the President and Deans list. He has transferred to Baylor University inTexas. He had several rounds of interviews and was picked to be a Baylor Ambassador. He will represent Baylor in Washington and in Austin at the capital. He has one year left to receive his accounting degree and he then will go to Law school at Baylor.

Alumni Receives Highest Academic Award
Madison Rebekah Halbrook, of Ruston, is among 59 students at the University of Mississippi awarded Marcus Elvis Taylor Memorial Medals during annual Honors Day Convocation April 18th.
Taylor Medals, the university's highest academic award, recognize no more than one percent of the student body for meritorious scholarship and deportment. recipients of the award must have at least a 3.90 grade-point average.
Halbrook is senior mathematics major in the College of Liberal Arts. Her other academic honors include membership in PhiKappaPhi, UM's highest academic honorary across all disciplines, and Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest and most prestigious honors society in the liberal arts. She also received the Alton C. Grimes Award in mathematics.

Cedar Creek School honored the academic accomplishments of students enrolled in Advanced Placement and Advanced Honors Classes at the Super Omnia Banquet on Tuesday, April 27th. Students were recognized for their individual achievements with special recognition given to seniors.
Rohan Rangaraj, Cedar Creek Class of 1997, delivered an inspirational speech that expressed the merits of the ongoing pursuit of excellence. He shared a quote from Tom Judd, former Cedar Creek School principal and a leader of education in north Louisiana, “Good is the enemy of best.” Never settle for “good” if it is truly not your “best.” Rohan encouraged each student to be true to the Cedar Creek motto, Super Omnia…the best of all.
