Cedar Creek Blood Drive

Cedar Creek will host a Blood Drive at the Ruston Wal-Mart on Saturday, January 30th, 10:00 a.m-4:00 p.m.  Through your donations, a Ceadr Creek senior will receive a college scholarship.  Come out and support this effort by giving the gift of life.

Beginning Flute Lessons
Who:  Any 6th thru 8th grade student at Cedar Creek
When:  30-45 min. weekly appointments on Tuesdays and/or Fridays
Where:  At Cedar Creek School during a designated time in your child's schedule
                  OR After school at 138 Old Wire Circle in Ruston
Why:  To teach your child the basics of playing the flute
                  (The flute can be placed in school bands, concerts, weddings, churches, etc.)
How:  Sign up today for private flute lessons!!

Having just recently moved to Ruston from Texas, Mrs. Tolar has 18 years experience with teaching private flute lessons.  She has had many past students that begin in 6th grade and take through their 1st year in college.  References available from many parents, former students, and band directors.

Important: Be sure to list the school code when registering for the ACT (192-588). Also when taking the ACT you must list the score report code 1595 for LOSFA to receive and use scores for TOPS consideration. Some colleges now also require the written portion of the ACT. Please use your social security number when registering for the ACT to ensure proper identification.

Just a reminder that anyone taking an AP class is required to take the AP Exam at the end of the year. Mark your calendar now for these important test dates.

Claiborne Electric Cooperative's Youth Leaders Contest - Essay contest open to Juniors whose families are served by Claiborne Electric.  Drop by Guidance for information.  Deadline Friday, December 18, 2009, 5:00 p.m.

NCAA Clearinghouse - Now is the time for college-bound student-athletes in the junior class to register with the NCAA Eligibility Center if they plan on participating in college athletics.  Early registration promotes positive planning and involvement, bypasses the last-minute rush and helps college-bound student-athletes avoid issues that may delay their academic and amateur certifications.  The registration process is easy and can be done by:  1.  Logging on to the Elibiligty Center's Web site at www.eligibilitycenter.org; 2.  Selecting the "Fall 2010 or After" icon; 3.  Selecting the "New Account" tab at the top of the screen; and 4.  Beginning the registration process.

MyRoad:  College Board (SAT), has a valuable web site www.myroad.com.  Cedar Creek has paid to log in, so that we may obtain access to the most detailed and current information reagarding colleges, careers and college majors.  There is also a personality inventory that is quite good and students find useful.  

Cedar Creek encourages our students to use this as they continue with their college and career searches.  Through the computer classes, I have logged on and trained the entire junior class.  They are loving this program!!!  I want you to know that they can use their passwords to get into this web site from their home computers.  There is also a parent section available, if you are interested your junior can log you in as well. 

SENIORS:

  • NCAA Clearinghouse - Students who plan to participate in college athletic programs must register with NCAA Clearinghouse. Information is available in the guidance office. www.ncaaclearinghouse.net NCAA will no longer use school reported ACT scores for eligibility. Testing institution must supply scores directly to Clearinghouse. Students must use the code 9999 when ordering scores.
  • FAFSA Forms serve as the application for TOPS as well as financial aid apply on line at www.fafsa.ed.gov File your FAFSA between January 1 & July 1. Some colleges require filing the FAFSA and possibly other financial forms. Check with your college.

Lela (Louisiana Educatoin Loan Authority) - 'Tis the Season Christmas Card Art Contest - Your art could be featured in Lela's 2009 holiday greeting card!  $2,000 in scholarships awarded to Louisiana high school seniors.  For details and guidelines, visit our web site www.askLela.org.  The theme is "Tis the Season!" AXA Achievement Scholarship - Are you active in the community?  Have you led a project that benefits others?  Have you overcome personal challenges?  You may qualify for an AXA Achievement Scholarship in the amount of $10,000 or $25,000.  Learn more and download an application at:  www.axa-achievement.com.  Apply by December 15, 2009.
