Our 2008 football season was marred by injuries, but we managed to get on track by the playoffs and just missed the quarterfinals by a few plays. We started off with a very tough pre district schedule and our injuries started early. By week 4, homecoming, we were up to 20 players not dressed. By week 6 we had a record of 1 win 5 losses. The next week St. Frederick came to Cougar Stadium we knew that game was the turning point of our season. If we could win we would get into the playoffs at a pretty good spot. We won and got in. Our 1st round opponent was an undefeated District Champion St. Edmunds Team in Eunice. Before the game their head coach was talking to our head coach about how well they thought they would match-up against South Plaquemine team in the quarterfinals. We caught them looking ahead and beat them well 21 - 6. In round 2 we got to go home to Cougar Stadium to play a very good Block team. They were their district champions in district 4. We had a lot of opportunities to beat them but just could not get it done and they won 26 – 10. Our seniors led an uphill battle all year and turned a dismal season into a respectable one and one I will always be proud of. We will miss that group a lot!
