Cedar Creek Sophomore Alex Roebuck Shines at National Golf Invitational

July 22, 2025

Cedar Creek standout Alex Roebuck ended his school year on a high note, and he’s kept the momentum going straight into summer.
After capturing the Division IV individual state championship in early May, the rising junior earned an invitation to one of the most prestigious youth golf tournaments in the country: the 2025 High School Golf National Invitational, held at the legendary Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina.

The three-day, invite-only tournament, hosted by the PGA and the National High School Golf Association, brought together 312 of the top high school golfers from across the U.S. Roebuck’s invitation came as a direct result of his state title, making him one of just a handful of elite players to qualify based on championship performance.

A Stage Unlike Any Other

“Being invited to this event was very special to me because it was the biggest tournament I’ve ever played in,” Roebuck said. “Playing at Pinehurst and knowing the U.S. Open was played on the same property was crazy to me.”

Roebuck teed off on three iconic Pinehurst courses — #5, #6, and #8 — across three rounds from July 20–22. He opened strong with a first-round score of 73 on Course #5, including five birdies and some impressive putts under pressure. A more challenging second round on Course #8 brought an 80, but Roebuck’s perseverance and sportsmanship stood out.

“He holds his head high and walks off the course with friends, not enemies,” said his mom, who followed his play closely.

Roebuck bounced back in a big way on Day 3, shooting a 71 with an eagle on the par-5 15th hole of Course #6. “My favorite hole was number 15 when I hit a 5-iron to about four feet and made eagle,” he recalled.

More Than Just Scores

What sets Alex apart isn’t just his skill — it’s his character. Known for encouraging other players and showing integrity under pressure, he’s quickly earning a reputation as a class act on and off the course. He credits his recent state title for giving him confidence heading into Pinehurst, but he’s also learning how deep the competitive field truly is. “Seeing some of these other golfers out there makes me realize how much better I need to get to reach great colleges,” he said.

On the Grind — and Loving It

Roebuck takes a smart and balanced approach to competition. “Course management and fueling your body every couple holes are key,” he said. He also relies on prayer, self-reflection, and consistency to bounce back after tough rounds. His go-to golf snack? “Uncrustables. Quick and easy.”

If he could play with any three people, Roebuck said he’d choose “my dad, Tiger in 1999, and Scottie [Scheffler] now.”
Looking ahead, Roebuck has his sights set on upcoming LJGT tour events in Baton Rouge and Squire Creek, and he's focused on improving every part of his game — especially the short game. “Be able to get up and down from anywhere,” he advises younger golfers.

Eyes on the Future

As he enters his sophomore year, Roebuck’s biggest goal is time management. “Balancing school, practice, homework, and sleep is key to showing up and working hard every day,” he said. It’s all part of his bigger vision: excelling as a student-athlete and preparing for the next level.

Whether he’s sinking birdies or lifting others up on the course, Alex Roebuck is a rising star worth watching.
